Clean Beauty, from pits to lips

There were days that passing through the Whole Foods beauty section was weird, grimy, hippie. I loved it, yes, but I didn’t really know if I would actually want to bring the item home, in case someone went through my garbage, wondering what the heck I was getting myself into.

But so much has changed in the past decade- kale is the long reigning king, avocados are worth more than gold and coconut oil is quite the sexy know-it-all. There’s also clean beauty product that pops-up on every other IG ad, with choices way beyond those once vacant aisles of Whole Foods. As everything, beauty is not one size fits all, and I have absolutely gone through 4 kinds of deodorants, so its all about trying it all.

If you absolutely have to choose what to clean up, start with these few. It’s a cycle and before you know it, you’re gonna realize that Whole Foods knew what was up all along.

Pits- I’m saying this one first because we all know that its a sensitive topic, my favorite has been Acure and on special occasions, this Only Good find from Australia.

Teeth- this one is easy! Enter Tom’s of Maine, Trader Joe’s or anything that would include any type of version that is free of cherry red, or sea foam green food coloring (I’m looking at you Aquafresh)

Hair- while I still can’t believe that people still use colored junk in their hair, natural hair color is the ONLY way to go, and is accessible anywhere, this one has my eyes. As for clean and care, I rely on trusty Hair Cleanse for hair so good, I’m too distracted to put in any more product.

Face- cleansers should be free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (that gives you that strange squeaky clean feeling), parabens (which keeps from getting spoiled) and alcohols (drying and such). I rely on the Brightening Cleanser for a daily clean, and Exfoliating Cleanser for those days/nights that need a little extra oomph.

Lips- after all, it all goes in, right? The first brand that taught me that was Bite, made from edible ingredients and the most brilliant line of lipsticks. For my regular days, you can’t go wrong with a classic one-does-it-all balm or an extra boujee version from the king of them all, Lord Jones.
